Mountaineering & hiking
In the summer, the Ammergauer and Wetterstein Alps offers all kinds of opportunities. From the Zugspitze to Ettaler Manndl, right next door to the abbey, there are mountain paths, climbing routes, and hiking trails at every level of difficulty. The Ettal and Graswang valleys are also perfect for long walks and hikes as you explore the impressive beauty of nature.
Breathe in the clean mountain air and explore our beautiful region by bike. Numerous cycling paths, from gentle to gruelling, are available.
By the way, if your bike won’t fit into your car, you can always borrow one from us.
Our 10 trekking bicycles (8 for adults, 2 for children) are regularly maintained and are ready for you to take them for a spin. (Three children’s seats also available.)
Snowshoeing and cross country skiing
In winter, the most beautiful and longest cross-country ski runs in Bavaria (more than 50 km) lead directly past our hotel. Ski along King Ludwig’s tracks Ettal via Oberammergau to Linderhof Palace.
Prefer a winter hike? Then head out with snowshoes into the unspoiled, snow-covered landscape. Snowshoes can borrowed from Papistock in Oberammergau.
Whether professional or amateur, Ettal and its surrounding area offers a wide range of options for skiing and snowboarding fans: such as the ski area of Garmisch-Partenkirchen (15 km), on the Zugspitze, in neighbouring Ehrwald and Leermoos, on the lifts in Oberammergau (with snowmaking equipment!), and on the Laber.
Great fun for small guests
Our little guests should also feel comfortable here. Our playground, tucked away behind the hotel far from the road, gives your children plenty of space to romp, play, and be happy. In addition, a large trampoline, a wooden house with slide, a sand box, and a climbing net ensure that boredom has no chance. Nature also has a lot to offer and invites kids to play ball, catch, or hide-and-seek on the big meadows.
The Plansee is not far from us in a breath-taking location across the border in Austria and is easy to reach by car. Here you can swim, go boating, or take a walk.
