The Benedictine Abbey of Ettal was founded in 1330 by Ludwig IV, the Holy Roman Emperor and known as Ludwig der Bayer (“the Bavarian”).

A quick look at the Klosterhotel
The 4**** Klosterhotel is at approx. 870 m above sea level in a spot between the valleys of the Ammer and Loisach rivers and together with nearby Ettal Abbey offers the ideal conditions for successful events.
“Let all guests who arrive be received as Christ, because he will say: ‘I was a stranger and you took me in.’” – The Rule of Saint Benedict Accordingly, since the foundation of the monastery in 1330, hospitality has been a major mission for the monks of Ettal.
100 comfortably furnished rooms, suites, and apartments with free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, modern telephones, either a shower or bathtub, private toilet, hairdryer, and, in some cases, a balcony.
10 conference rooms in the hotel and monastery can hold up to 400 persons.
An additional 8 rooms are currently in planning.
Our hotel dining rooms (the Bräustüberl, Kaiserstuben, Kaiser-Ludwig-Saal, Klosterstube, Kegelstube, and Prälatenkeller) can host up to 500 guests at a time. At the abbey, the brewery cellar can hold up to 150 persons and the brewery bar has an additional 30 seats. A special highlight is Josephs Hütte. In the summer months, our beer garden, the terrace, and Bräustüberl terrace are fine spots to linger over a pint and tuck into fine cuisine.
